Out and About

This is a photo of Hank & Janine Wyllie meeting the Captain purely by chance on a recent 14 day cruise on the Queen Elizabeth around New Zealand. Hank had his 69th birthday while on the cruise. The QE had a very nice wheelchair accessible cabin for us. Really enjoyed it even though we couldn't get off due to tender ports at Christchurch and Bay of Islands. A pity that the ship didn't have the Haka while there as its one of New Zealand's icons.

Ask an Umpire
Do you have a bowls situation which you would like clarified? Please contact our Umpire Co-ordinator, John Hulme or Don Lyne with your request and we will publish it in Hawk Talk.
Last week's scenario.
An opposition bowler with an arm has a problem when delivering and the bowl only travels about 10 metres down the green. What should be done?
Answer
If during the process of picking up the bowl to put in the arm or swinging the arm prior to release on the backswing the bowl drops out of the arm then it can be re-bowled. If however the bowl is released on the forward swing and travels some distance down the green eg 5 or 10 metres then it should be counted as a bowl. If the bowl travels less than 14 metres it should be removed from the green.
No new scenarios have been put forward this week so we will see if anything arises next week.
