New Shade Cloth, Seating and Concrete Paths for top and bottom greens - It's taken a few years, to obtain a grant (secured on two for one basis), but we finally see the rewards. They look fabulous, but more important provides protection and comfort for our members / bowlers. A lot of behind the scenes work has been done by many, but special thanks goes to Ken Mansfield for persistent grant applications and Arthur Francis for coordinating this project and construction along with his helpers. Again, we thank City of Greater Geelong [COGG] for assisting us with their grant.

Carpark - Recently met with COGG and went over final modifications and very pleased to report major (final stage) carpark upgrade will commence late March / early April. This will provide additional car spaces, lighting throughout and better traffic management / flow. COGG have put approved works out for tender, so watch this space!

First Friday in the month - 7 February

    BUSHFIRE APPEAL

This night will be our club's fundraiser dedicated to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal, and ALL our raffle proceeds on the night will be donated to this worthy cause. Many additional raffle prizes will be on offer. Should anyone wish to donate further prizes, they will be greatly appreciated. Amran, our chef, is keen to support the appeal and is donating five Friday meal vouchers. Please attend and enjoy a meal, drinks, camaraderie and members jackpot draw. Make it a great night for a great cause.

…. and also don't forget our special 'Members Bonus $250 Draw' - will be conducted on this first Friday in the month. We will do up to 3 draws, in endeavour to reward a member present. NB: This is in addition to the usual Friday evening Members “Jackpot Draw”.

    Ask an Umpire

Do you have a bowls situation which you would like clarified? Please contact our Umpire Co-ordinator, John Hulme or Don Lyne with your request and we will publish it in Hawk Talk.
    This week's scenario:

The jack on your rink has been hit by a bowl and pushed sideways towards the edge of the rink. There are some bowls in the area where it stops. A short time later a bowl from the next rink is coming down across the edge of the rink towards your head . What should be done by the Third or Skip?

    Answer
Because the jack on your rink is towards the side you need to be especially careful. If the incoming bowl from the next rink is likely to make contact with any bowl or the jack involved in a measure it should be stopped. If the incoming bowl is likely to have returned to its own rink then it can be returned to be re-bowled. If the incoming bowl is heading for a bowl not involved in the count then it can be lifted to allow the incoming bowl to pass.

    This week's scenario.
An opposition bowler with an arm has a problem when delivering and the bowl only travels about 10 metres down the green. What should be done?
