With the Festive Season approaching, the club will be extremely busy with functions booked for Xmas break-ups. If you are able to assist - barefoot bowls, etc., it would be greatly appreciated. For our members - particularly bowlers, please be understanding of any possible inconvenience, as these functions provide great alternate revenue to our Club.

First Friday in the month ( 6 December )

Roast Chicken (with roast veggies) dinner $15 - If you wish to avail of this special monthly meal, then you MUST pre-order by placing your name on the List, located on West wall / Social Section, in clubrooms.

Don Fisher (the Human Jukebox) will provide our entertainment for the night. Don is well known, and will provide great guitar music, which you can sing and dance along to.

And don't forget our special Members Bonus $250 Draw - to be conducted on the first Friday in the month (during bowls season). We will do up to 3 draws, in endeavour to reward a member present. This is in addition to the usual Friday evening Members “Jackpot Draw”. So by attending, first Friday in the month, you will have up to four chances to take some cash home! The past two months has seen two lucky winning members.

The Committee of Management are providing this free music entertainment night, along with the additional Members Bonus Draw. So, like all Friday evenings (members and guest), come along and support, enjoy the meals, drinks, raffles, camaraderie and members jackpot draw. Please let friends and guests know the benefits of being a Highton Bowls Club Social Member (at the very least).

    Roving Around

Yep it all started last Thursday, you could say the luck of the draw, Tommy taking on Dan only 2nd round. Dan got away to a great start 13 to 3 but Tommy getting the mat moved things around making inroads on the lead and with only 2 ends to he got a 4. This really kicked Dan the Man into gear drawing 2 great bowls onto the kitty (no choking Dan). Tommy could only drive to kill, missed 2x all, over red rover. Dan won. If you thought sportsmanship was out you should've seen these boys in action.

    Then onto Sunday (24 Nov)

    PB242224_A.JPG

The Men's Pairs final between Yan/Spider and Dig/Jones. The Y/S combination was working a treat, bruising poor old digger with the Jones boy putting in some great bowls but eventually getting a little punch drunk with relentless barrage of line and length bowling from Yanek and Ray. The Y/S boys too good on the day.

    PB242218_A.JPG

Also the Ladies Pairs final was on between Rhonda / Belinda and Joan / Jeni, on rink 10. It was a great game to watch with J and J ahead all the way and then on the 17th end the match was tied at 13 shots. Then R and B won the last end to take out the match 2 shots up. Well done ladies!

    PB242226_A.JPG

THEN, another episode of the bold and beautiful Mixed Pairs.

Vivian / Angry taking on Loraine / Ben. Talking about a bruising, help. Ben killed us getting out to a 15 to 5 lead on the 11th. Loraine was solid doing her job very well. It called for a mid life crisis decision. Let's not put up the white flag quite yet. Let's go to our strengths and draw, draw well. That worked a treat, and with one end to go it was all square at 16 all. Viv / Angry holding 2 or 3 on the last end didn't help, as a big drive from Ben's last bowl, scored a great hit. All over red rover. V/A down by one. A great win to Ben and Loraine.

Now to today's update from AA

Howdy chief, with a lot of pride I've received an email from Prez. My version.

I arrived at the club to be greeted with "did you see last night's version of the Bold and Beautiful?" NO! But with some excitement I got a few versions.

Well the Beauty and the Beast played the Young and not so Restless (Jezza and Elaine). Well strategys came into play straight away with the Beast running away from Jezza getting up the other end. Well that didn't work with the Young and Restless shooting out of the blocks 9-0 in 3 ends. Well Mariam put the shoulders back, fluttered her eyes at Jezza, growled at the Beast and took on the challenge. On the last end J and E up by 3 shots. Miriam plays a blinder trailing the jack to hold 4. Jezza couldn't get to it, with the Beauty and the Beast getting up by 1. Excitment plus!!!

    JOKE

Four old retired guys are walking down a street in Yuma, Arizona . They turn a corner and see a sign that says, "Old Timers Bar - ALL drinks 10 cents." They look at each other, and then go in, thinking, This is too good to be true.
The old bartender says in a voice that carries across the Room, "Come on in and let me pour one for you! What'll It be, gentlemen?"
There's a fully stocked bar, so each of the men orders a Martini. In no time the bartender serves up four iced Martinis - shaken, not stirred - and says, "That'll be 10 Cents each, please."
The four guys stare at the bartender for a moment, then at each other. They can't believe their good luck. They pay the 40 cents, finish their martinis, and order another round.
Again, four excellent martinis are produced, with the bartender again saying, "That's 40 cents, please." They pay the 40 cents, but their curiosity gets the better of them. They've each had two martinis and haven't even spent a dollar yet.
Finally one of them says, "How can you afford to serve Martinis as good as these for a dime apiece?"
"I'm a retired tailor from Phoenix ," the bartender says, "and I always wanted to own a bar. Last year I hit the lottery jackpot for $125 million and decided to open this place. Every drink costs a dime. Wine, liquor, beer - it's all the same"
"Wow! That's some story!" one of the men says.
As the four of them sip at their martinis, they can't help noticing seven other people at the end of the bar who don't have any drinks in front of them and haven't ordered anything the whole time they've been there.
Nodding at the seven at the end of the bar, one of the men asks the bartender, "What's with them?"

The bartender says, "They're retirees from Australia. They're waiting for Happy Hour when drinks are half-price.
