I thank all other members, who have volunteered and taken on Leadership roles.

A long and very busy committee meeting was held 8/5/2019. Many action items and discussions. I'm pleased to advise the following:

    - Renewal of Greenkeeper's contract for further 24 months. Very pleased to maintain the services of our excellent greenkeeper - Jamie Wray.

    - Planned replacement of Carpet Green surface for April 2020.

    - Bar prices will increase apprx. 5% from the 1/9/2019. NB: There has been no bar price rises in past 3 years, as our club has absorbed all general price rises.

    - Met with COGG council 8/5/2019. Depending on available concreters, a start on shade and seating will begin soon, for Greens # 1 & 3. Timeline will have project finished before start of next bowls season.

    - COGG council have allocated $600,000 towards our car park upgrade. Is in their budget for this year, but still subject to their approval. Closer to happening, but not known when.

    BOWLS SECTION

It would be appreciated if members could kindly complete and deliver the volunteer sheet which was forwarded out with your Election Notices and Fees Invoice. Amazingly the number of Election papers returned versus Volunteers sheets was double, please jump on board and indicate where (if able) you can assist the Club.

May I take the opportunity to firstly thank ALL persons who put their hand up and nominated for positions within the Club, secondly I would like to congratulate ALL that were successful in being appointed to office bearer positions and look forward to working with each and everyone over the ensuing year.

It was good to see such an attendance at our AGM and to have our newly appointed Coach outline his vision for the Club. Atmosphere on the night was very positive and I believe we as a Club are heading in a new and dynamic direction, all we need is for all members to “buy in” to what is happening.

Over the next couple of weeks there will be numerous meetings happening within the Bowls Section as a lot of personnel will be departing on their annual pilgrimage north to enjoy the better weather. We will keep you informed of happenings as they unfold.

May I take the opportunity to thank Elaine Coles & Wendy Ballentine on their efforts in successfully conducting both the 5 a Side and 6 a Side tournaments post Pennant season. They and their workforces are to be commended for their efforts in organising and running.

As it is that time of the year where members start to either migrate North or travel elsewhere (overseas etc) let me wish everyone a safe and enjoyable break and we look forward to seeing each and everyone of you upon your return.

    Terry Driscoll - President

    Midweek Pennant Selection

Our initial meeting was held after the AGM on 6 May. Ray McCorkell was elected as Chairman.

The Selection Committee is considering if 6 Pennant Sides could be entered for the Highton Bowls Club for the coming season. For this to take place we need your cooperation and names on list asap. We are encouraging all members Male & Female to take part in this years Pennant Season which will be restricted for Midweek Pennant.

    Anne Cotterill - Selection

    6 a Side - 2 Bowl Triples Winners

Four weeks of fun and friendship. The Inaugural winners were Ann Venables, Jill Bell, Judy Medlyn, Judith Jenkins, Greer Little and Jill Smith. Here they are displaying their medals after playing the Runners Up with 2 points the difference. All the participants enjoyed the concept and have recommended it as an annual event to be held straight after pennant. Lunch was enjoyed with soup and sandwiches prior to the medal ceremony.

OUT and ABOUT - Ash Fitzgerald, Artist

    ARTSHOW.JPG ASH_1.JPG

Ashley attends a disability art group every Wednesday. After his car accident in February last year which has left him with permanent whiplash issues down his right side he struggled for sometime at being able to do his art again. Through his determination, physio and an arm support he is able to do his art again with a lot less discomfort and pain. Above is an outback hotel that Ashley has painted and we are very proud to say it has been selected for the Artx exhibition. Exhibition is open to the public from 9am to 4pm until 31st of May. See notice above. Sue Smith
