First Friday in the month ( 1 December )

Roast Chicken (with roast veggies) dinner $15 - If you wish to avail of this special monthly meal, then you MUST pre-order by placing your name on the List, located on West wall / Social Section, in clubrooms.

Don Fisher “the Human Jukebox” will provide our entertainment for the night. Don is well known, and will provide great guitar music, which you can sing and dance along to.

And don't forget our special Members Bonus $250 Draw - to be conducted on the first Friday in the month (during bowls season). We will do up to 3 draws, in endeavour to reward a member present. This is in addition to the usual Friday evening Members “Jackpot Draw”. So by attending, first Friday in the month, you will have up to four chances to take some cash home! The past two months has seen two lucky winning members.

The Committee of Management are providing this free music entertainment night, along with the additional Members Bonus Draw. So, like all Friday evenings (members and guest), come along and support, enjoy the meals, drinks, raffles, camaraderie and members jackpot draw. Please let friends and guests know the benefits of being a Highton Bowls Club Social Member (at the very least).

I'm very pleased to announce, on Wednesday, that Kustom Roofing have become major sponsors of our club. Jason & Marcus are recently joined Social Members, and have extended their association with us. Like all sponsors, please return the support, where possible.

Les Davey and Neil Daw are on duty Monday 25 Nov to Sunday 1 Dec.

Following week 2 Dec to 8 Dec, will be Clive Dawson and Andrew Deans.

Click here to see revised roster and duties.

    Green Fees

Can those members collecting green fees please place their banknotes flat (not folded in any way) in the small sandwich bags provided. The notes will fit perfectly and it will make counting the fees so much quicker and easier. The newer-type banknotes tend to crumple (and remain crumpled) more than the older notes. Can you also please check your totals and ensure that the bags are completely sealed so that coins do not drop out.

    Roving Around

A group of 4 couples roved on down to Aireys Inlet for a weekend getaway. It was a tremendously enjoyable fellowship and banter couple of days, with the statement of the weekend going to snowflakes Jones, “You should hang your sheets perfectly in the centre on the line so as you'll have a straight crease line up the centre on your bed”. Really??? A lot of fun was had, so much so, we will be doing the same next year during Vic Open weekend if anyone wishes to join us.

Back to Bowls....On Monday after bowls I came across the Bold and Beautiful playing their mixed pairs play off. Reg and Emily Whitford taking on Miriam Falzon and Terry Driscoll. It was a tight affair early on with Miriam hugging the kitty many times until she took some time out to interreact with some of her fans until Terry gave her a roar up so they quickly became the Beauty and the Beast again. Reg and Emily fought very hard, but the Beauty and the Beast came out comfortable winners.

Then on Tuesday morning I came across the best game of draw bowling I've seen for ages between two bean poles (jealous) Stuart Erry and Mike Currie. If you don't believe me, ask marker crusty Ken M. It took them 31 ends to sort things out with the score @ 22-23 on the 30th with Stuart getting a 3 on measure to end the battle. I would not be able to produce the result any time between these very consistent draw bowlers, well done both Stuart and Mike.

Yes, while above was going on Anne Cotterill and Jill Bell were in battle, very crafty ladies using very different strategies. Mat up short ends the other mat back long ends be wary of the little lady Jill battle well but Anne was able to hold on and win.

Their are a lot of club games being played at the moment so if you have some time on your hands have a peak.

Jeremy playing his mega bowl in the Pancare event.

This was a fund raising event by Pancare, raising money against pancreatic cancer. Every person got one bowl each and the closest on each rink played against each other until there was one player left, to win a brand new set of bowls. Unfortunately for me, it was my worst bowl all week and I got knocked out straight away. JF
